My name is Susan Funk and I have been involved in some aspect of real estate since 1993.
I first worked for a title company in Montana as a courthouse runner and assisting in their escrow department. One cold winter in Montana and I shanghied us back to Washington, where I went to work for Millikan Escrow in Marysville for the next 5 years.
I am a licensed LPO on inactive status as well as a Notary Public. Knowing the escrow process gives me a bit of an advantage as I can usually foresee what may hinder a successful closing and work on solutions before it comes down to the nit and grit.
I then worked for Mike Hansen as his assistant in his real estate business for the next 2 years learning the ropes. I decided to become an agent myself. As much as I may be detail oriented and paperwork minded, I like the relationships I build with clients more.
I truly enjoy helping people realize their dream of home ownership. There is nothing quite like the satisfaction I feel when a client turns to me and says, "This is it. This is the place I want to call home." I love helping my clients discover what rocks their boat. So no. If you expect me to bully you into a home, that's not going to happen.
Outside of real estate, I was actively involved in the Mukilteo Little League program, most notably the softball program for over a decade. I have managed and coached as well as helping in a board capacity, either as VP of Softball or Player Agent. I kept my little vow with myself not to show up for the 2011 annual meeting in September or October. I miss the girls but happy not to deal with District histrionics anymore.
I love team sports. It underscores one of my fundamental beliefs. If a child walks aways from their Little League years with two things, I believe we've done a great thing. Teamwork and a growth in their self esteem. If a child learns an appreciation for teamwork and how to work with one another to accomplish a goal, that's huge. For me, it isn't the score at the end of the game that signifies victory. It's when a child experiences the small victories like fielding a ball well, getting a hit or stealing a base...finally. It's the lift in their self esteem. Do you remember that glow you felt? It's awesome to watch.
I have 3 adult children, Nathan, Rebecca and Alex. They did not stay little..doggone it. But it is a pleasure being their mom and traveling down the path of life with them.
I grew up as a Navy brat and spent many years bouncing back and forth from Japan and stateside. From what my mother called the nicest people in South Carolina, our adventures in Oceanside, California while my dad was in Vietnam, the challenges we faced in New Jersey and the numerous car trips coast to coast, we've seen a lot of this good old USA. In 1975, my father retired to Washington state where he felt he could fish away his retirement years and I've called the South Everett area home ever since.
